Atrium balustrades modified to meet safety standards at Lowy
In response to a safety priority identified during risk assessments, Estate Management undertook modification works across levels 1 to 6 of the C25 Lowy Cancer Research Centre to enhance safety within the atrium spaces.
The project involved the installation of powder-coated circular hollow section handrails onto the existing balustrades. These modifications were designed to increase the height of the balustrades, aligning them with current safety standards while preserving the building’s architectural integrity.
Works were delivered one month ahead of schedule thanks to close collaboration between the Facilities Manager, Asset Planning Manager, and UNSW Safety. The project was completed under budget, demonstrating the value of proactive planning and strong interdepartmental coordination.Â
