Your WIL experience

Personalise

WIL engages students in authentic, purposeful, partnered, supervised and assessed work based learning experiences. These experiences integrate the theory of academic learning with its application in practice as part of a program of study.

Through WIL, students develop the critical skills needed for workplace success, gain insight into professional culture, and build professional networks that enhance their employability and career success.

To ensure you are well prepared and able to make the most from your WIL activity (including assessment tasks), please read the information below.

Roles and responsibilities during your WIL activity

Throughout the WIL activity you are responsible for:

  • complying with the WIL Agreement, with reasonable directions of WIL staff, and adhering to all relevant UNSW policies and procedures e.g.聽Student Code of Conduct.
  • fulfilling all the requirements related to the WIL activity, the associated WIL course, and your program of study. This includes class-based and/or online learning activities and assessment tasks.

The Student Code of Conduct also outlines expectations to ensure respectful and professional behaviour. As a WIL student, you are expected to:

  • treat all University staff, other students, and visitors with courtesy, tolerance and respect. This extends to teaching staff in venues off-campus and online, as well as supervisors and others involved in workplace or clinical placements, fieldwork or other forms of 聽WIL activities.
  • conduct yourself professionally during placements, fieldwork, or any WIL related activity.
  • ensure your actions or inactions as a student do not harm, or bring into disrepute, the University鈥檚 reputation or good standing.

WIL Supervision

UNSW WIL staff and workplace supervisors play an important role in making your Wil activity a positive and productive learning experience. However, it is ultimately students who are responsible for their own learning. To gain the most from their WIL activity, students should take several steps, starting with thorough preparation, asking for help when needed, and making the most of every opportunity available to maximise their learning.
